Creating this set for a short film called ‘Family’ involved working in a small team to bring the design to life. We had to hammer apart old pallets to create laths in the walls, plaster some areas and I learnt a new skill of wallpapering and pattern matching. For the shot film I was also involved in set decorating and set dressing, including painting fake mould, dirtying carpet and giving the room an overall slightly dystopian look. Working a group, communication was key as we balanced out the jobs to get everything done in the short space of time. I was also on set during filming as standby art department which gave me an insight into how a professional production company works and I love the collaborative element of working on a film.
